5 Long Necklace Designs You Should Check Out

How do we define a long necklace? There are different necklace types, from chokers to operas and ropes, with each one coming in varying lengths. However, anything over 20 inches in length can be considered a long necklace. Necklaces with lengths of 20-24 inches are called matinee necklaces, 30-inch necklaces are opera, and longer lengths are collectively called ropes or lariats.

We may take out the chokers, like the Audrey Pearl Choker Necklace and our other favourite diamond collar necklaces, only for special occasions. But it is the long necklaces that we reach for when it is for daily wear, a casual evening out with friends, or to match our office wear. There are several long design necklaces crafted with great attention to beauty that become signature pieces among women. Remember that the length of a necklace will be relative to your height and personal choice. We will explore five such designs in this blog with an eye to making them easier to add to your necklace collection.

Matinee necklaces

Matinee necklaces are typically between 20 and 25 inches long. They may have a pendant, which can be worn with other shorter or longer chains, layering them for a more festive look. These long necklaces fall well below the collarbone. They are great for business and casual wear and go perfectly well with western and ethnic outfits. Matinee necklaces can also come in a lariat design, like the Lariat Pearl Necklace.

Opera-style long necklaces

Opera-style long necklaces hang below the chest and are long enough to wear as a single strand in gold, silver, or platinum and may include pearls, well-spaced diamonds, or other gemstones. The length of opera necklaces makes it simple enough to wrap or knot to appear like a double-strand or a layered necklace. Don’t be misled by the name, as opera necklaces work well with businesswear and formal evening gowns, too.

Lariat-design long necklaces

The lariat necklace is usually longer than the opera necklace. The lariat design can be a matinee, rope, or a Y-necklace. It is a distinct style and doesn’t have a clasp, and it can be slipped around the neck with a single strand falling from the centre. Typically, they are so long that they fall well below the belly button. However, the lariat design can also be part of a shorter chain that falls near or below the chest. Give the Sparkle Lariat Diamond Necklace a chance, and you will want to wear it all the time. If you want to add a fun element to the necklace, you may like the Dragonfly Lariat Gemstone Necklace in yellow gold and a brilliant synthetic ruby as the dragonfly’s body.

The advantage of this style is that it can be wrapped around closer to the neck, making it shorter.

Long rope necklaces

You can wear the rope necklace in several ways (e.g., wrapped, layered or knotted) for a sophisticated yet elegant look. The beauty of this necklace length is that it can smoothly go from the office to the party. You will find that long gold chains can also be considered rope necklaces and are long enough to wear with or without a pendant.

Long pendant necklaces

One of the trending designs is the long pendant necklace. This style has a long chain with a single pendant. These pendants are centrepieces and may be in plain gold, personalised, or come with a solitaire or cluster of gemstones. You can have one chain to wear with a variety of eye-catching pendants, making it easier on your budget. The pendant will carry any statement you wish to make. The Amaira Dazzling Gold Cable Chain is strong and will support any type of pendant you choose. While the chain is 16 inches long, adding a pendant could bring it closer to the matinee length. The Roza Diamond Pendant is beautifully designed and easy to wear with any long chain, or you could go for the Aleeza Bloom Gemstone Necklace

While we have covered the different types of long necklaces, it is more common to wear a pendant necklace or one of the matinee length necklaces as everyday wear. Neither of these is comparable in length to the rope or opera necklaces. But they come close to the lariat design.

Moreover, if it is wedding season for you and you want a mangalsutra long necklace, you have several to check out – from the Esme Lariat Diamond Mangalsutra at less than INR 30000 to the more expensive Aisha Solitaire Mangalsutra at over INR 90000, and a wide range in between.

The long necklace has always been a popular choice, and there are countless different designs to choose from. And not everyone likes to wear a choker or collar necklace all the time. We like to mix it up, and long design necklaces give us more choices to dress up or down with our favourite outfits. Longer necklaces also make it easy with options to twist them or wrap or knot them to make them shorter as the mood takes us, which is why long-design necklaces will never stop trending.

Whether you want to start your own trend or follow them, your first stop should be at CaratLane, and since you will find more designs than you expected, you are likely to stay and fulfil all your jewellery desires in one fell swoop.
